Lastovo Archipelago - sailing destination, part 2

Zaklopatica bay is situated on the northern part of island Lastovo. It has a natural shelter from waves arising from northwest summer winds, an islet named Zaklopatica, which is situated just in front of the bay. Unfortunately islet Zaklopatica isn't that high to shelter the bay from Bora, unpleasant northeast wind, so we won’t recommend you to visit Zaklopatica in time of Bora. Zaklopatica is very popular among sailors. With depth of 15m, you can anchor in the bay, or berth a sailboat on quays or jetties and use electricity, water, sanitary facilities and Wi-Fi. Zaklopatica is well known as a great spot for diving because of the rich collection of underwater flora and fauna. If you are lucky you can even see the rare bird species called Kaukala. If you climb a bit up inland you'll enjoy a fabulous view on island Korčula and a breathtaking sunset. After a full day of diving and swimming, you can enjoy in leisurely walks and many restaurants offering the best of Lastovo’s traditional cuisine.

Zaklopatica bay

Lastovo village is not far so we recommend you to rent a car or scooter, or take a bus and visit this quaint place. Lastovo is an old medieval town with a long history, surrounded by mountains and forming a natural shape of an amphitheater. In Lastovo you can see beautiful family houses dating from the 15th and 16th century. They are decorated with cylindrical chimneys which the locals call “fumari” and with high broad terraces “Lastovski sulari” which are trademarks of Lastovo. There is a large number of churches of relatively small size, a testament to the island's long-standing Roman Catholic tradition. The major cultural event is ‘Poklade’ (carnival), a time of events, parties and jocks lasting from January until Ash Wednesday. In Lastovo you could visit local taverns and enjoy in local specialties, wine and original products such as olive oil, sweets made from fruits and spices, liqueurs etc.

Lastovo village

Another interesting place we recommend to visit is Skrivena Luka. It is a lovely, small bay surrounded by pure nature and a nice town on the southern coast of the island of Lastovo. Skrivena Luka literally translated means ‘hidden bay’. And indeed, the bay is so secluded that it is not possible to see it from the open seas. Skrivena Luka is the best sheltered place on the island. Still Bora and winds from south, west and north are noticeable, and southwest winds can create waves at the entrance of the bay.

Skrivena Luka

With a depth of 3-5m and muddy bottom with sand, anchoring can be tricky. Maybe you can consider restaurant moorings and jetties with water and electricity. First sight of Skrivena Luka is a lighthouse on Struga Cape, built in 1839. This lighthouse lies at the height of 70 m, at the very edge of a steep cliff that offers a splendid view of the open sea.

Lastovo Archipelago - sailing destination, part 1

If you are sailing from Vela Luka side, we recommend you to anchor bareboat in Jurjeva Luka bay on island Prežba. Jurjeva Luka is probably the safest bay on Velo Lago bay and north-west part of Lastovo Island. It is hidden from all winds so it is safe shelter for oversleep when the storm is approching. Jurjeva Luka is located on the east part of Island Prežba, second bay on left when you're sailing from south side.

By entering Jurjeva Luka you will notice a lot of devastated military objects. Lastovo was military base from World War l until the Independents of Croatia 1992. Ruins remains just a monuments on military which influent on island demography. You will notice also lot of Italians on island. It is because Lastovo was under Italian occupation from 1918 till 1943, so even today, when Lastovo is open for sailors, Italians are most common visitors.
Jurjeva Luka is quiet bay, without restaurants, stores or local houses. From the bay you may walk next to the seaside and reach Pasadur, village well known for bridge which connects Prežba and Lastovo Island. In Pasadur you may find restaurants and café. The passage over bridge (local pasadur) connects two salted lakes/bays - Malo Lago, situated at northern part of island Prežba and Velo Lago, south part of Prežba (Lago/Lake). Malo Lago is also great place to anchor but be aware by entering the bay, there are series of low, barely visible rocks and Hljeb Rock W of Veli Maslovnjak and N of Mali Maslovnjak. We recommend sailing between Prehodišće Point and Veli Maslovnjak.

Pasadur and Malo Lago

For food supply we suggest you to go to Ubli. Ubli is village located in the Velo Lago bay on the southern part of the island of Lastovo. Ubli is main harbor of Lastovo island, a ferry port where passengers arrive at Lastovo Island by ferry from Split, Dubrovnik, Korcula, Mljet, and Vela Luka. At Ubli you may also fill fuel tank at fuel station, have a lunch at local restaurant or buy some local delicacies; wines, olive oils, sweets made by local fruits and spices etc. From Ubli also starts buses which connects two biggest places in Lastovo island; Lastovo place and Skrivena Luka.

Bavaria 46 Cruiser - Galera

We would like to introduce our Bavaria 46 Cruiser, a very popular 4 cabin charter boat in our fleet. Galera is a model from 2006 Bavaria boats edition. Main feature of this design is a spacious deck, which is one of advantages of the sailing boat. Galera has 4 cabins with 2 toilets, and accommodates up to 8 people. Galera is very easy to sail, with furling sails, two steering wheels and enough space below bimini for you to enjoy your sailing experience.

We like talking about Galera because Galera is one of ours biggest and successful project. In 2012, in association with its first owner, we invested a lot of time and effort in restoring the boat. It is fully restored technically - from detailed engine reparation, fridge reparation to steering system power, etc. Interior is completely varnished, kitchen surface is altered in exclusive kerrock, and mattresses have been changed with quality foam for better comfort. Saloon has been also renovated, with new quality foam around the table, and varnished wooden surfaces all around. From the outside this comfortable sailing boat looks like a new boat. Boat sides are newly polished with new blue lines. You will really feel like you are sailing on the new sailboat.

We would like to recommend Galera for a family trip, or for friends’ trip. In its renewed kitchen with lot of storage spaces below and above in hanging lockers and shelves, every chef will enjoy preparing meal for his crew. Around the saloon table there is enough space for eight. The chart table has a large compartment for nautical charts and navigation instruments with more storage underneath the seat.

Here is a list of standard equipment included in price:

Galera's great feature is also good air-flow. It has eight main opening hatches along with eight side windows streaming daylight. There are another six non-opening windows and two saloon panorama-windows. All this light reaches the soft wood paneling to promote an open, spacious feel. If you or your guests feel like a glass of wine or two, below the saloon table are bottle compartments hidden to keep wine safe during sailing.

Master bedroom is big - double bed measures 210cm length and 190cm width, and free space in cabin measures over 140cm length from bed till door. Even the stern cabins are spacious, with beds 210cm long and 170cm wide.

This spacious sailing boat with 4.35m beam will definitely be your comfortable living space during your sailing vacation.
